End-of-Year Student Award Ceremonies
5/23/2017At the end of every school year, the School-family Partnership program sponsors Student Recognition Award ceremonies for successful students across the district. These award ceremonies are essential to honor and reward students whose achievements represent the best of PPS, and to inspire their fellow students in the coming school year. We’re excited to celebrate these students and are looking forward to sharing their stories with you.
This year, the schedule is as follows:
May 23rd: Valedictorian Awards Ceremony
May 24th: Si Se Puede Awards Ceremony
May 25th: Golden Minds Awards Ceremony
May 30th: Native American Student Honoring Ceremony
May 31st: Young, Gifted and Black Awards Ceremony
On May 23rd at 6 pm, Valedictorians from around the district will be honored at the Board of Education meeting at the Blanchard Education Service Center (501 N Dixon).
The 6th annual ¡Sí Se Puede! ("Yes, we can!") PPS Latino Student Recognition Event will take place at the Blanchard Education Service Center (501 N Dixon) at 6 pm on May 24th. ¡Sí Se Puede! is an opportunity for students to celebrate and inspire each other, build relationships outside their schools and share the rich diversity of their talents and experiences with the greater Portland community.
The Golden Minds Asian and Pacific Islander Student Recognition Awards will take place at the Blanchard Education Service Center (501 N Dixon) at 5:30 pm on May 25th and will begin with a light dinner. “Most programs honor student who graduate with academic excellence,” said Huy Hoang. “Our award also recognizes those who put in an extra effort to overcome obstacles to earn a high school diploma.”
More than 30 years ago, the PPS Indian Education office launched the Native American Student Honoring Ceremony. This year, the event will be held on May 30th at 5:30 pm, at Portland State University’s Native American Student and Community Center (710 SW Jackson St). The event recognizes all graduating Native American students and their families.
The 8th annual Young, Gifted and Black awards ceremony will take place at the Blanchard Education Service Center (501 N Dixon) at 5:30 pm on May 31st. Young, Gifted and Black is a program aimed at highlighting the success of Black students throughout PPS. The annual awards ceremony recognizes some of our most distinguished students and their families.
