Hayhurst lead paint update
9/23/2016Dear Hayhurst Families and Staff,
As previously communicated, PPS recently hired an independent third party to test lead paint levels in two of the classrooms at Hayhurst, #14 and #15. A copy of their final report, dated September 15, 2016, may be accessed here. The report’s Executive Summary on page 1 includes the following recommendations:Based on the findings of this investigation, paint found in poor condition should be stabilized and windowtroughs need to be cleaned. PBS recommends that the windows remain closed until an Oregon Health Divisioncertified abatement firm using certified workers can clean the window troughs and surrounding interior andexterior surfaces. After cleaning, a certified renovation repair and painting (RRP) contractor, using lead-safework practices, should repaint the window components and lower cabinetry in the rooms.
We have started the process of implementing all of these recommendations and will keep you updated on progress made. To that end, an Oregon Health Authority certified abatement firm using certified workers, Global Pacific Environmental, LLC, will be cleaning and abating all school window troughs this weekend. The school will be closed to the public during this time period. Clearance testing will also take place to confirm the effectiveness of cleaning and that remaining lead levels are within recommended limits.
Families and staff who are interested in a lead blood screening can order a home test kit from ZRT Laboratory at 1-866-600-1636 or 503-466-2445, weekdays 6 am to 5 pm, or info@zrtlab.com. In addition to providing the student’s name, address, grade level and school name, parents will need to provide their child’s student ID. If you do not know your child’s student ID, simply enter “11111”. Staff will need to provide their name, address, and PPS employee ID number.
Thank you,
Courtney Wilton
