PPS staff are invited to a discussion entitled, "Black & Blue," on Thursday, February 16, 2017, from 5:00pm-7:00pm, in the BESC Board Auditorium.
African-American police officers, a foot in two worlds-Black and Blue: African-American police officers are often a go-between for the communities in which they ethnically and racially identify and the career in which they chose to enter. Some police officers feel that they are in a unique position to help bridge the gap between the two communities, while other police officers feel that they must choose one or the other. Please join us in a facilitated discussion with African-American police officers who will talk about their perspectives on being Black and their career choice of being Blue.
This discussion will be facilitated by George Weatheroy, a retired Portland Police Officer and the Director of Portland Public Schools' Security Services Department.
The Focus Film and Lecture Series is an effort to bring staff and community together to engage and dialogue about race and culture. These series are meant to deepen our understanding of race and culture that impact PPS students and communities. The Film and Lecture Series is held in the Board Auditorium at the BESC (501 N. Dixon St., 97227). Teachers (TSPC certified employees) will be able to receive PDU’s for their participation in the series. Food and beverages will be provided.
