    The Office of Teaching and Learning will ensure that all educators provide rigorous, authentic, and personalized experiences for all students, particularly our historically underserved populations.

    The Successful Schools Framework, pictured below, outlines the five essential practices all schools must employ in order to advance the achievement of every child. The primary function of the Office of Teaching and Learning is to facilitate the adoption and expansion of these practices in every school and every classroom.

  • College and Career Readiness Building awareness, fostering exploration and increasing preparation for all 6-12th graders.
  • Early Learners Department The Early Learners Department supports and oversees PPS PreK/Headstart programming, Kindergarten programming, PreK-3rd grade program alignment, and school age childcare.
  • Humanities Supporting every student to attain the promise of the PPS Graduate Portrait by preparing professional educators to teach about the aspects of human society, language and culture.
  • Instructional Resource Center The IRC is a central resource for currently adopted curriculum and other instructional materials, including: Textbooks, K-8 Science Kits, Novel Sets, DVDs, Digital Streaming Media.
  • STEAM/HPE The vision of the PPS STEAM department is that students will be collaborative, creative problem solvers who are empowered to meet the challenges of the future.
  • Athletics The mission of our Portland Interscholastic League is to promote participation and sportsmanship through a competitive athletic program.
