    Vision

    K-12 science instruction and learning at Portland Public Schools is designed to:

    • actively engage students in designing and conducting investigations;
    • nurture and embrace children’s natural sense of wonder and curiosity;
    • encourage critical and creative thinking;
    • develop problem-solvers; 
    • provide opportunities to engage in discourse; 
    • foster positive attitudes toward science, self, and society; 
    • provide equitable access to highly engaging and rigorous learning opportunities
    • provide opportunities for students to create models using their scientific knowledge to explain natural and engineered phenomena; 
    • use curriculum resources that reflect students’ cultural backgrounds and issues relevant to their communities.
