  • Check in Check Out (CICO)

Check In Check Out is designed for students who want to access connections with adults or access to an object or activity.  It provides students with a daily morning check-in with a trusted adult to reinforce expectations for the day.  Staff throughout the day provide feedback on those expectations.  Students check out with their trusted adult at the end of the day to celebrate successes and problem-solve challenges.

  • Meaningful Work

Meaningful Work is a school-based jobs program that gives students responsibility and helps them develop purpose, self-worth, pride, and a sense of belonging and connection. When matching students to jobs, it is essential to consider how the work will be perceived by other students and the school community. Ensure that the job does not support racial, gender, or cultural stereotypes. Jobs should be “high-status.” Additionally, the student must WANT the job and it should NEVER be used punitively.  Jobs should always elevate the student’s status and build esteem.

    RESOURCES

Meaningful Work Companion Guide - This includes multiple resources, including job descriptions, for implementing meaningful work in a school.

Meaningful Work Planning Sheet - For teams to plan jobs across the school with job descriptions, locations, possible incentives, and data planning.

Job Application - For students to apply for meaningful work jobs.

  • Affirmations

Affirmations provides students with written positive feedback related to schoolwide expectations throughout the day. Unexpected behavior is still supported, though not included in this form. It is particularly helpful for students who may become dysregulated when they feel their behavior might elicit less-than-desirable feedback. Because this intervention is not connected to a point system, it pairs well with the Positive Behavior Tracker Daily Record Sheet.
