Leap into 9th Grade

  • The Leap into 9th Grade four-week summer program prepares incoming ninth-grade students to excel in high school by building a foundation for success in math, and participating in career exploration field trips and activities before starting high school.

    What is the curriculum?

    • Intelligence isn’t a fixed quality — Being smart is about how you think and what you do, not about who you are. Students learn how their brains change as they learn and how effective effort, productive persistence, skills of collaboration, and motivation can change their academic success. Students also learn how to manage their own engagement in schoolwork, thus taking responsibility for their own learning.
    • The AVID Summer Bridge Algebra Readiness program strengthens students’ understanding of fundamental math and algebraic concepts to provide a solid foundation for success in Algebra 1. Students will participate in math content with a WICOR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading) emphasis: Focused note-taking, interactive notebooks, writing and vocabulary activities and team-building.
    • Career exploration will encourage students to discover their interests and learn about different career opportunities. Students will participate in hands on activities related to CTE programs, practice career and financial planning and go on field trips to industry partner facilities.
  • Please register by May 22, 2019. You can register online here or download a registration form and return it to your high school.
