Degrees and Certifications:

Andrea Patton

Andrea Patton is an English and Journalism teacher. She has a bachelor’s degree in English Education, and a master’s degree in Journalism and Communication from Ohio State University. In 2016, she took a two-year teaching hiatus to pursue her passion for journalism and worked as a freelance reporter and office manager for Good Times, the weekly alternative paper in Santa Cruz, California. Patton is adviser to The Headlight, our student publication that is named after Ida B. Wells’ paper, The Memphis Free Press and Headlight. She is co-adviser for GSA and also advises Writing Club. She has two designer dogs, Dylan and Mavis, named after the musicians Bob Dylan and Mavis Staples, and lives with her partner in the Reed neighborhood, where her partner teaches psychology at Reed College. She and her family like to take drives to scenic places in the PNW in their camper van. She offsets her occasional weekend fuel consumption by driving an electric Golf around town.
