• Hello Rieke Families,

    Welcome back!  I am thrilled to let you know that even though you cannot enter the building to check out books, you will still be able to choose books from our library, accessing Destiny Discover Online Catalog, and completing a Google Form.  Ms. Vaughan will have your books ready the following week for you to pick up.  

     

    Below are some questions and answers you may have about how this will work:

    Q: What is the “Let’s Get Reading!” program? 

    A: A PPS supported program to make sure students have access to physical books during distance learning. 


    Q: How will we get books?

    A: Fill out the My Rieke Library Book Order Google Form on the Rieke Library Website beginning Tuesday, September 15th, and request up to 6 books per student. There will be tutorial videos posted for you to learn how to browse the online catalog and fill out the book request form. 

    At a designated time and location, your family will pick up your paper bag of requested books.  A couple of weeks later, you would return your books and receive a new bag of books which you requested the previous week, and so on. 

    For Rieke, our pick up/book return days would be as follows:

    Any Grade-Wednesdays 12:00-3:00

    Any Grade-Thursdays 12:00-3:00

    The pick up/returns location would be outside of the office doors, under the breezeway.

    Allow one week between filling out the form and picking up your books-no same week pick-up. 


    Q: It’s impossible for our family to pick-up books at that time, will we still get books? 

    A: Please fill out the My Rieke Library Book Order Google Form on the Rieke Website, anyway, and leave a note for me there so we can figure out another way to get books to you. 


    Q: What if our family has multiple students in multiple grade levels. Can we come on one day to pick up our books instead of each day for each student?  

    A:  Yes, but you will need to let me know on the Google Form that you are a family with multiple students and list the day which you would like to pick up books for all of your children.  It is important to have EACH of your children fill out a Google form as closely together as possible, so I can gather those books for your family and have them ready by your requested pick up day.


    Q: How do we return books? We still have some from last year! 

    A: The return bin is temporarily outside the office door and only during school hours.  During your pick up day, plastic returns bins will be in the same area for you to easily return your books.


    Q: Will we get the exact books we request on the form?

    A: Not always. Please be prepared to receive different books from your request. All requests are subject to availability. Books must go through a 4 day quarantine between circulations so they may not be available even if the catalog says they are. We will do our best to substitute with books similar to your request. 


    Q: But there is ONE book that we really, really want!

    A: Wonderful! Please request it again next time or check for digital copies on Sora or TumbleBooks, through the Rieke Destiny Discover Catalog, or public library.


    Q: How many books will we get?

    A: About 6 at a time - more books than usual to limit the number of trips to school. 


    Q: Should we wait to return all the books at the same time? 

    A: Your choice - the returns bins will remain outside as long as possible so you can return books as it fits in your schedule. 


    Q: We lost a book, can we still get new books?

    A: Yes. There will be no penalties or fees during distance learning. 


    Q: Does this mean the building will be open on pick-up days?

    A: No. The building is still closed to students and families. 


    Q: What is this program doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19? 

    A: We will be using the following guidelines to prevent spreading COVID-19:

    1. Everyone in the pick-up area must wear a mask covering their mouth and nose. 

    2. Only one family at a time may approach the pick-up area. Waiting families should maintain 6 feet of distance from other families. 

    3. Book requests will be processed by staff first thing. Book returns will only be handled when book requests are completed for the day. Staff will wear fresh gloves for each task.

    4. Returned books will be cleaned, then isolated for a full 4 day “rest” period between circulations. 

    5. Increasing the number of books students can take home limits trips to school.
