PPS Teacher Candidate Placement Process 2021-2022

  • University/College Placement Coordinator:

    1. Submit 2021-2022 Teacher Candidate Placement Request to PPS for consideration. A contract must be already established to be considered. 

    2. Placement Coordinator will provide Teacher Candidate with the link to Teacher Candidate Entrance Survey and PPS will not process requests until form is completed by potential Teacher Candidate.

    3. Placement Coordinator to provide PPS IT Email Account form to Teacher Candidate.

    • Please have Teacher Candidate download as PDF and save as FirstName.LastName.University.pdf.
    • Teacher Candidate will submit document in their Teacher Canditate Entrance Survey.

    4. Inform Teacher Candidate that PPS will request their current resume in the Teacher Candidate Entrance Survey.

    5. Placement Coordinator will be informed once potential placement has been made. All placements will require approval from the PPS building Principal before placement is confirmed.

    6. Once placement has been confirmed by all parties, the Placement Coordinator will provide information to the Teacher Candidate.

    • PLL will provide Cooperating Teacher Leader's First and Last Name, Email Address, and School Location.
    • Synergy access for Teacher Candidates will be provided on the first day.

    7. Placement Coordinator to provide PPS Criminal Verification form to Teacher Candidate.

    • Please have Teacher Candidate submit to PPS Security Services via email at securityservices@pps.net with the subject line "Teacher Candidate Background Check" 30 days before start date.

     

    Additional Information:

    • The Professional Learning & Leadership Department will create the Teacher Candidate's PPS Email Account once the background check has been cleared.
    • The Office of Information and Technology Services (OTIS) will email Teacher Candidates directly with their login credentials for Pepper and Synergy.
    • Teacher Candidates have 30 days from the start of their clinical experience to complete all mandatory trainings in Pepper. The Cooperating Teacher Leader can assist you with locating the trainings.
    • Security Services is located at 501 N. Dixon, Suite 150 Portland, OR 97227. Please do not report to Security Services until your scheduled appointment time.

    Teacher Candidate:

    1. Complete Teacher Candidate Entrance Survey, PPS will not consider potential placement until google form is submitted. 
      1. You will need to submit the PPS IT Account Form via Teacher Candidate Entrance survey. Please download as PDF, sign, and save as FirstName.LastName.University.pdf. 
      2. Additionally you will need to provide the most recent resume. It will be reviewed by Cooperating Teacher Leader and Cooperating Principal Leader.
      3. You will not be able to submit google form without attaching IT Account Form and Current Resume.

    2. Complete all university/college requirements,your university/college coordinator will inform you once placement has been confirmed. 

     

    1. The Teacher Candidate will receive an email from the university/college placement coordinator when placement has been confirmed. They will provide contact information for the Cooperating Teacher Leader.

    2. Complete fingerprinting for TSPC after PPS placement has been confirmed.

    3. Complete a PPS Criminal History Form 30 days prior to beginning Teacher Candidate clinical experience. Please make sure all parts of the form are completed accurately as any blanks or inaccurate information could significantly slow down the process. Save the completed form as a PDF. (Send copy of Clearance to: Add TeacherCandidatePlacement@pps.net) (Contractor Company: Add Your University/College) (PPS Contract Manager: Giselle Naranjo Nelson) (PPS Contract # N/A) (Forms will not be processed more than 30 days in advanced)

    4. Email the completed PPS Criminal History Form to Security Services securityservices@pps.net with the subject line “Teacher Candidate Background Check”. Please include your school placement location in the email.

    5. Once cleared, you will receive an email from Security Services with a link to their appointment page. Please click on the link to schedule your appointment. During the appointment, the Teacher Candidate will show their ID, have a photo taken, and receive their badge.

          6. Teacher Candidates will receive access to Synergy for their Cooperating Teacher Leader on their first day. You will receive an email with instructions via your PPS email address which will be provided after the background check is completed. Please complete IT required training in order to gain immediate access. 

          7. Covid Vaccine Requirement:

     

    On August 18, Portland Public Schools announced that all employees will be required to submit proof of full vaccination by August 31. Yesterday, the Oregon Health Authority also posted OAR 333-019-1030: COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements for Teachers and School Staff, which requires staff, contractors, and volunteers in all schools to be vaccinated by October 18th, 2021. 

     

    In order to protect our students and staff, every teacher candidate/student teacher must complete this COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Form regardless of vaccination status. Through this form you will upload documentation of your proof of vaccination. If you are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated, you will also receive additional information via email about testing requirements. You may not report to a PPS school until you have completed the COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement Form. 

     

    Proof of Vaccination
    You will be asked to submit proof of vaccination. Vaccination records must include the name of the person vaccinated, type of vaccine provided, date or dates given, and the name/location of the health care provider or site where the vaccine was administered.

     

    Acceptable forms of documentation include: 

    • a copy of your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card (issued by the Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control & Prevention or WHO Yellow Card); OR
    • a photo, or scanned copy of your Vaccination Record Card as a separate document; OR
    • documentation of your COVID-19 vaccination from a health care provider.

     

    Please note: You may also be asked by your school Principal, Secretary, or office staff to show proof of vaccination when entering your school for a while.
