  • Program Overview

    Portland Public Schools Head Start serves 648 low-income three- and four-year-old children and their families. The goal of Head Start is to prepare young children for successful transitions to kindergarten and beyond by building social competence and developing school readiness skills. We accomplish this by enhancing children's growth and development, both physically and emotionally. We provide families and children with educational, health and nutritional services, linking them to needed community services. We ensure that all parents have opportunities for involvement in their child’s education and program decision making.”

    We are available by phone, text, or email for help with:

    • Managing your stress or your children’s stress   

    • Supporting your children with things like: 

      • changes in sleep, behavior, or mood 

    • Finding assistance or mental health services

    If you want to connect:

    Ask your Teacher or Family Service Worker for a referral, or call the Mental Health Manager Paula Zaninovich at:

    If you are experiencing a mental health crisis you can call the county crisis line for immediate support 24 hours a day at 503-988-4888.
