In reaction to the coronavirus pandemic that is affecting life throughout the United States and rest of the world, Portland Public Schools has held classes online starting March 16 and continuing into the 2020-21 school year. On this page are resources for families, as well as updates we have sent, via email, to our families.

School Meals for Fall 2020 During Comprehensive Distance Learning

(Updated October 30, 2020)
Where: Meals will be available for pickup outside the schools list below.
When: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Other details: Students will receive seven days’ worth of meals each week. On Monday, they will get breakfast and lunch for Tuesday and Wednesday; on Wednesday, they will get meals for Thursday and Friday; on Friday, they will get meals for Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Meal Delivery: For families not near a meal pickup location or who need assistance accessing meals, we will be offering home delivery of school meals. If you would like to participate, please fill out the online form.

Accessing Financial Aid

The Department of Human Services (DHS) provides eligible families with child care subsidies that cover the cost of most child care fees. To find out if your family income is eligible for subsidies, check out the Employment Related Day Care: Temporary COVID-19 Related Changes website, or call the direct pay unit at 1-800-699-9074.

Need help with forms? If your child attends a school with SUN services, contact your SUN Site Manager. Community Agents and P-3 Coordinators are also trained.

Due to COVID, the income limit has increased for initial eligibility, and the subsidy amount is greater. To receive this increased subsidy amount for 12 months, families must complete forms by October 31.

Important Information About PPS Meals for Fall

Dear PPS Families,

As you know, Portland Public Schools will begin the school year with Comprehensive Distance Learning until at least November 5 (see pps.net/fall2020 for details). The Nutrition Services department will continue to offer onsite meal distribution. We want to update you on our plans to provide meals for students during this time.

Our summer meal service ends Thursday, August 20, and we will restart meal service on the first day of the new school year, Wednesday, September 2:

Update on Computers and Hotspots for Summer

Students who currently have a PPS issued computer and/or hotspot may keep them over the summer. Graduating seniors and students who know they will not be returning to PPS in the fall are asked to return their PPS computer and/or wireless hotspot.

State program offers families help to pay for food

As our community deals with fallout of the coronavirus pandemic, we want to make Portland Public Schools families aware of a state benefit to help pay for food. The Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer program, or P-EBT, is available to help families offset the cost of meals that would have been consumed at school. It is administered by the Oregon Department of Human Services.
