Jefferson is Rising

Great achievements and rich experiences are happening now, and things are about to accelerate. With a $465 million modernization in planning, Jefferson’s future will be matched by the strength it already has today. This fall, the community will help shape ways to grow enrollment and create even greater student opportunities. Come be part of it.

Superintendent's Recommendation

After robust public feedback on several enrollment plans, Superintendent Armstrong recommends Scenario C as the best option to transition Jefferson, Grant, Roosevelt and McDaniel from dual assignment choice to standard attendance boundaries. The Jefferson High School boundary will include these elementary school zones:

Beach                        Boise-Eliot/Humboldt
Chief Joseph            Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr
Faubion                     Sabin
Vernon                      Woodlawn

Irvington will be part of the Grant boundary, and Peninsula will be assigned to Roosevelt, along with the Beach Spanish Immersion program. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Chinese Immersion program will continue to be part of Jefferson High School.

This plan will bring enrollment and program growth and predictability back to Jefferson, while still maintaining robust offerings at neighboring schools. Additionally, almost all students who live within one mile of a high school will be able to attend their closest school.

View the proposed boundary map or go to pps.net/about/portland-public-schools-information/district-map to find the current elementary school for your address.

The School Board will make the final decision in January. If approved, the changes will start with the 2027-28 school year for incoming 9th graders and other new students. This is the first step in a systemwide review, not a standalone change. The next phase of school right-sizing will begin in 2026.
