2020 Bond Seismic Retrofits

2020 Bond funding of $17,200,000 is being used to seismically retrofit up to 3 smaller schools that are on the City of Portland's URM database and are likely to have had a full roof replacement as part of a previous bond effort.  Performing seismic retrofit projects in coordination with full roof replacement projects ensures a building-wide seismic upgrade.

Additional funding for these retrofits has come through the Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program (SRGP). This is a state of Oregon competitive grant program that provides funding for the seismic rehabilitation of critical public buildings, particularly public schools and emergency service facilities.  PPS regularly applies for these grants and has saved the public millions of dollars throughout the entire Bond Program by receiving these awards.

Lent Elementary School - Completed 2022
Seismic Retrofit Immediate Occupancy - SRGP funded 

Lent Elementary had a full Seismic Retrofit completed in the fall of 2022. 

Creative Science/Clark - - Completed 2023
Seismic Retrofit Immediate Occupancy - SRGP funded  

Creative Science had a full Seismic Retrofit completed in the fall of 2023.

Marysville K-5 School Seismic Retrofit - construction began in the Summer of 2024.

The two-year seismic retrofit began in the summer of 2024 and is scheduled to be completed in the Fall of 2025.

The 2020 Bond Seismic retrofit projects were made possible with SRGP funds.

Lent and Creative Science each received seismic rehabilitation grants from Business Oregon, the state's economic development agency. The Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program (SRGP) is a state of Oregon competitive grant program that provides funding for the seismic rehabilitation of critical public buildings, particularly public schools and emergency services facilities. The evaluation for the SRGP funds is based on the American Society of Civil Engineer (ASCE) 41-13 standard. Portland Public Schools will continue to diligently pursue SRGP funding as well as other opportunities to improve the quality of its schools as they become available.
