Welcome to the PPS Family Assessment Resources webpage. We believe that assessment is not about high-stakes labels. It is a tool to ensure our schools provide equitable, high-quality instruction. By measuring student progress in different ways throughout the year, we gain a complete picture of your child's strengths and academic needs.
How We Measure Learning: The Four Assessment Layers
Just like a doctor tracks a child's growth using daily nutrition, routine checkups, and annual milestones, our teachers use four distinct types of assessments to guide your child's education. Click here to view a summary of some typical assessments currently used in PPS.

Formative Formative Assessment is any tool that is used to inform future instruction for a student. Quick, casual classroom checks like exit tickets, hand-raising, and verbal questions are examples of low-stakes formative assessments. 📖
Unit Assessments Unit Assessments measure if students mastered a specific block of classroom curriculum before moving on. Examples are end-of-chapter tests, science labs, or writing projects. ⏱️
Interim Assessments Interim Assessments are typically administered 3 times a year (Fall, Winter, Spring). They track a student's personal growth curve across multiple grade levels. 🌐
Yearly Summative Yearly Summative Assessments like OSAS are administered at the end of the year. These assessments show how our entire school district is performing compared to state standards. Understanding i-Ready Inform
The i-Ready Inform is an interim assessment system that PPS has adopted for grades K through 8 to assess math and literacy. i-Ready adapts instantly to your student. As your child answers correctly, the questions get harder; if they miss a question, it decreases difficulty to find their exact instructional baseline. This lets teachers pinpoint exactly where to offer extra help or accelerated challenges. i-Ready is compliant with Oregon Senate Bill 141 (The Education Accountability Act, 2025).

Understanding OSAS (State Testing)
The Oregon Statewide Assessment System (OSAS) evaluates English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and Science. Rather than basic multiple-choice memory tracks, these adaptive sessions use real-world scenarios and computer-guided tasks to evaluate critical-thinking, analytical reasoning, and complex problem-solving skills.

Where do I view my student's test scores?
i-Ready Inform and and OSAS/ELPA test results are available in ParentVue. Scores are viewable in the Test History tile after the end of each assessment period. A pdf report version of OSAS test scores is also available at the start of the school year for the prior year's scores. If you need assistance accessing ParentVue, contact your school office.
