DLI Late Entry (Grades 1-12)

At grade levels beyond kindergarten, families submit a lottery application to enter DLI. In order for petitions to be approved, space must be available at the specific grade level. If space is identified, students will be required to take a language test unless they're native speakers. Native speakers of Chinese, Japanese and Russian are required to be tested on reading and writing if entering grade 3 and above.

DLI Late Entry Assessments

The Department of Dual Language will designate a highly skilled educator to administer the late entry assessment. This educator will reach out directly to the family to schedule the late entry assessment (once the student’s name has been processed through the Department of Enrollment and Transfer).

1st-3rd Grade Late Entry Assessment:

• In the partner language, students must demonstrate that they are at most one grade level behind in reading, writing, speaking, and listening (grade-level benchmarks can be found here).
• This assessment will be administered in a one-on-one setting. The educator will ask a series of prompts and engage the student in various reading, writing, speaking, and listening tasks to determine the student's proficiency level in each domain.

4th -12th Grade Late Entry Assessment:

• In the partner language, students must demonstrate that they are at most one grade level behind in reading, writing, speaking, and listening on the STAMP 4S (grade-level benchmarks can be found here).

• This assessment will be coordinated through the Dual Language Department; a representative will contact the family directly to set the assessment time and place.

Accommodations:

If the student has an IEP and/or a 504, please communicate this directly when you are contacted to schedule the Late Entry assessment. With this information, the assessor can ensure appropriate accommodations for the late entry assessment.
