The costs for these services vary depending on who provides the service and the conditions of the request. Schools / departments are responsible for the cost of their requests.

Consecutive Interpretation |
This form of interpreting is used most often for person-to-person communication, during which the interpreter is positioned near both parties. |

Sign language is not a universal language — each country has its own sign language. ASL is used predominantly in the United States and in many parts of Canada. |

Simultaneous Interpretation |
Request this service when you have a large meeting. Simultaneous interpreters work in pairs, with each interpreting for 20 to 30 minutes periods. Remember to request interpretation equipment for this service. |
$50.00-60.00/hour. Best practices for this approach require 2 interpreters for a minimum of 1 hour of simultaneous interpretation. |
If you require simultaneous interpretation make sure to submit your request with two weeks’ notice. |

Telephonic Interpretation
|
Telephone interpreting may be used in place of on-site interpreting in some cases, especially in the case of emergency requests, when need for an interpreter arises unexpectedly or when no on-site interpreter is readily available at the location where services are needed. |
0.55 cents per minute to 0.69 cents per minute. |
This type of interpretation is a three-way call and requires a PPS staff on the other side of the line. You don’t need to submit a request, this service is on demand. |

Pre-scheduled Telephonic Interpretation |
This service is available for language of lesser diffusion. | $2.00 per minute | Submit a request via LinguistLink with at least 2-weeks’ notice. |

(Written) Translation |
Word documents are preferred, they speed up the process and don't have associated DTP charges. If you have a Google document that you need to translate, please download it and submit it for translation.

$0.06-0.48 cents per word. $6.00 for Braille. |
Desktop publishing (DTP) costs apply in some cases. Examples: PPP, Google forms. Rush fees are charged for projects with short turnaround times. |

This equipment consists of 30 transmitters and 210 headsets. Each transmitter includes a headset for the interpreter. |
The equipment is recommended for events where multiple people require interpretation services. One transmitter is needed for each language group, and one headset for each person requiring interpretation services. |

Cost Factors
The costs of interpretation and translation services are based on several factors:
- WHO provides the service (independent contractor or outside agency)
- TIME of day when services are provided, and duration of appointment
- TIMELINE - when we received the request, when is the service needed, etc.
- LANGUAGE(S) in which services are provided
- FORMATTING, DIFFICULTY OF TEXT, DUE DATE (translation only)
NOTE: DTP fees apply (Desktop Publishing fees) for converting, PPP, Google Forms, etc.
