Reconnection Center
About
The Reconnection Center (RC) is a 3–12-week intervention designed to re-engage disconnected youth and support their successful return to school. The RC provides a structured, student-centered environment aimed at reigniting students' motivation for learning and helping them build the academic and personal skills necessary for long-term success.
Our core mission is to deliver a transformational experience that helps students reconnect with school, develop positive habits, and rebuild their confidence. Through daily routines, targeted interventions, and individualized supports, the RC fosters improvements in attendance, organizational skills, academic confidence, and the development of a positive school identity. Central to our approach is helping each student discover their personal “why”—a meaningful reason to persist in school that they can hold onto during future challenges.
The Reconnection Center serves as a short-term yet impactful bridge between disconnection and re-engagement, with the goal of ensuring that every student leaves better equipped, more confident, and ready to thrive in their educational journey.
OUR GOAL -
Tools for School Success
GOAL 1: Get into a School Routine
Building a positive school-going routine is the number one priority! These skills are essential to school success. While at the Reconnection Center, students will work on the following:
- Attendance
- Assignment Completion
- Organizational and Executive Functioning Skills
In addition, we will work with students to reframe their past school experiences and build a positive connection with school and their goals. While at the Reconnection Center, we will support students in developing academic confidence and a positive school identity.
GOAL 2: Reading, Writing and Math Skills
Upon entry, all students will complete diagnostic assessments in math and literacy using MAP and IXL. This informs the development of a personalized academic plan. Based on a review of their academic history and the anticipated length of their enrollment in the RC, students will either focus on credit recovery or building essential skills in reading, writing, and math.
- Credit Recovery: Designed for students who are up to one year off-track, this track emphasizes earning academic credit and accelerating progress toward graduation.
- Reading, Writing, and Math Development: Designed for students who are two or more years off-track, this track focuses on building essential skills in reading, writing, and math, preparing students for success in their next school placement.
STUDENT SCHEDULE
The Reconnection Center is a part-time program. Students take 3 classes - English Language Arts, Math and an Elective - and will be assigned to either a morning or afternoon schedule.
- Morning Schedule runs from 8:30-1:00 (lunch included)
- Afternoon Schedule runs from 11:15-3:30 (lunch included)
SELF-PACED LEARNING
We offer a self-paced model of teaching and learning in the Reconnection Center. This allows us to target each student’s academic needs and provide the curriculum and support necessary for success. Students access the curriculum through Canvas. Teachers work one-on-one with students, supplementing the curriculum with direct instruction and support.
