We’ve recently experienced several student cars parked illegally on campus and throughout the neighborhood. Cars have blocked drive ways, gates, and areas reserved for Emergency Medical Teams.  Illegally parked cars on campus or in the neighbor are subject to towing at the owner’s expense.

Have you lost a bike on FHS grounds recently?  If so, please come check-in with Jill in the VP Suite - Room M-132 to describe it.

Also, if you have lost a lunch bag or clothing items, please check the wire clothing rack to claim. For valuable items keys and miscellaneous items, please see Jill in M-132.

Advanced Scholars will be hosting the Higher Ground Affinity Group lunch on Wednesday 9/18 from 11:25-1:30 in the library. All African-American students are invited to attend.

Advanced Scholars will be hosting the Listos Affinity Group lunch on Tuesday 9/24 from 11:25-1:30 in the library. All Latinx students are invited to attend. CLUB NEWS:

    COUNSELING NEWS:

Every Thursday, our counseling department will be sending information about College News.  It will be about upcoming college visits, our various FAFSA and college fairs as well as scholarships.  In addition, we have a board dedicated to scholarship and college visit right in the career center.  We know that you get a lot of information sent your way so this is our way to streamline that and give you the opportunity to come and talk to us if you have questions after you have had time to read about.   There have been several reminders regarding the Gates Scholarship.  In addition, here are several more that are coming up.  We encourage you to apply for as many as you can.

Beat the Odds Scholarship deadline . September 16th http://stand.org/oregon/beat-the-odds

Gates Scholarship deadline. September 15th. https://www.thegatesscholarship.org/scholarship

AES Scholarship deadline. October 15th. http://www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.php

Do you need to talk? Are you concerned about a friend’s safety or well-being?

Your School Counselor is here to listen and support you whenever we can. Whether you have a personal issue or concern about someone else, you can talk to us. We can provide guidance and connect you to resources, in and outside of school, where you can get additional help and support. During the school day, get a pass and visit the Counseling Center or stop by during lunch. If it’s not an emergency, we recommend that you reach out to your counselor to set up an appointment.

We also have a School Social Worker in the Counseling Center who can provide individual therapeutic support to students, and support students in connecting to mental healt and basic needs resources (i.e. food pantry, rent assistance, etc.). Room SS-201 is also the home of the FHS Student Resources Center: fully stocked with clothing, shoes, coats, hygiene supplies, and backpacks – available to any Franklin student.

What if something happens at night or over the weekend?!

Please be aware that emailing your counselor at night or over the weekend may not be the best way to reach out for immediate help, as counselors are not always accessible. Outside of school hours, follow these recommendations:

    • Reach out to an adult that you trust (a parent/guardian, family member, friend of the family, etc.).
    • Call the Multnomah County Mental Health Crisis Line at 503-988-4888. This is a 24/7 number to get help, or for you to request help for someone else. There are interpretation services available.
    • Visit the Multnomah County Walk-In clinic at 4212 SE Division Street, open until 10:30pm every day, if you want immediate in-person mental health support
    • Call or Text the Safe Oregon Tipline at 844-472-3367 to report concerns with someone’s safety, including your own
    • Call the Suicide Hotline at 800-273-TALK (8255)
    • Call the Youthline at 877-968-8491 between 4pm-10pm or text “teen2teen” to 839863
    • In case of an immediate emergency or threat of danger, call 9-1-1!
