  • Teaching Philosophy
    • I am passionate about Chinese, and strongly advocate experiential learning - both in and out of the classroom. Mandarin is a living language surrounded by a rich and vibrant culture, thus students need to be engaged in real-world, meaningful, and level-appropriate tasks that continuously challenge their language skills, stimulate critical thinking, and promote long-term appreciation for the language and culture.
  • Special Interests
    • Before moving from Hawai'i, I was a surfing addict, but the frigid waters of Oregon have dampened that passion. I'm also a soccer fanatic, (watching the World Cup somehow got into our wedding vows). I also take out my frustrations on my Djembe (West African drum). Oh yeah... I'm secretly a world traveling backpacker disguised as a teacher.
