Degrees and Certifications:
Kristyn Westphal is a native of Kansas, but has also lived in New York City; Oxford, England; Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, and Belarus. In her free time, she goes hiking and camping with her husband, kayaks, drinks coffee, relishes Portland's foodiness, reads anything she can get her hands on, and writes creative non-fiction. Prior to becoming a school administrator, she taught Language Arts at the middle and high school levels in New York City and Newberg, Oregon. She speaks Spanish with her extended family, and is working on becoming fully bilingual. As a constructivist educator, she believes students must play a central role in creating their own learning, and that effective teachers are facilitators who simultaneously challenge and support, cultivating each student's ability to become increasingly independent.
