Buckman SUN Community School
SUN - Schools Uniting Neighborhoods
Our Schools Uniting Neighborhoods program enriches the Buckman community by offering low-cost, educationally enriching after school classes; day camps on many late opening and no-school days; community gatherings such as Family Write Night, winter craft classes and family dances; parenting and life skills classes for parents; and social support coordination for struggling students and families. Buckman's SUN program is a collaboration of Multnomah County Department of County Human Services, the City of Portland Parks and Recreation, Impact Northwest and Portland Public Schools.

Free School Supplies and Social Service Needs
If your child or family is in need of supplies for school or home, please contact us at 503-858-0230 to schedule a pick-up time in Room 108. We are also able to refer families to other social service resources (housing, energy assistance, food resources, clothing, etc.) or troubleshoot any potential barriers to school success.
Speak a Second Language? Cultural Liaisons Needed
Cultural liaisons assist our English Learning families by calling them to help keep abreast of Wednesday envelope communications and conveying back to the school questions or concerns families might have. It normally takes less than 15 minutes each week and makes a huge difference. If you can help our ELL families stay in the loop, please contact Becca at firstname.lastname@example.org.
SUN is looking to hire a gardening class teacher as well as inclusionary services support staff to work one-on-one with students with special needs. Apply at www.ImpactNW.org for the "Buckman Extended day instructor” position.
Please help with attendance tracking by reporting all absences to 503-858-0230 or emailing email@example.com on or before the missed class. Families will be contacted by phone in the case of an unreported absence in order to ensure the student's safety.
