What will be the hours for the school?
Roseway Heights Middle School (RHMS) will start at 9:15 a.m. and end at 3:45 p.m. each day.
-
Will there be Before and After School program options at RHMS?
Our SUN provider is Portland Parks and Recreation. PPS is currently in discussion about before and after school programming. Additional programming may be offered by our community partners IRCO and Latino Network, but that won’t be determined until the start of the year because actual enrollment is used to determine services.
-
What kind of security measures will be in place at RHMS?
Both the front entrance and the side entrance (by the parking lot) will have a buzz-in system with a camera. All visitors will have to be buzzed in by a secretary. In addition, one administrator will have their office located by each entrance.

-
Will people have a chance to see the school before the next school year?
Tours are being held before each monthly community meeting. Thank you to the current Roseway Heights students for serving as tour guides! The building will be closed over the summer so PPS can put in science classrooms and make other minor modifications before school opens.
-
Will transportation be provided?
Students who live up to 1.5 miles from the school are not provided with transportation. A transportation map is available at the feeder schools and online. For those students who walk, we are currently working with the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) and other community organizations to outline safe routes to school, and walking school bus routes so students can walk in groups.
-
Will the students have a chance to meet one another before August?
Staff and parents are designing opportunities for the students to meet one another in grade level groups and come see the school before the end of the school year.
-
How will my student get to know the staff?
We have carefully designed four Academies where the teachers will share a group of 150 students. Each Academy has teachers from three of the four feeder schools, a range of teaching experience, and at least one teacher of color. Staff members will have an opportunity to meet students during various events, and will also have the chance to spend time at each feeder school.
-
How will my student’s unique learning needs be met?
We are working on scheduling, staffing, and professional development that will meet the individual needs of each learner if they need additional support or acceleration. We will be holding Data Review meetings with the current teachers at the feeder schools to determine what is needed for each student to be successful next year. Our Intervention Team made up of math, literacy, and behavior specialists will set up any required interventions so that all students are receive what they need the first day of school.
-
How will all voices in our community be heard?
We recognize that not all our families feel comfortable at school, so we are making efforts to work with community partners and housing developments to meet with parents and get their input.
-
What will the school be called?
For the first year we will be Roseway Heights Middle School, and our symbol will be a combined logo with all four feeder schools represented. During our first year we will be looking for a new namesake that represents the ideals of social and climate justice that form the foundation of our school.
