Dear Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community,
As I have worked to form a response to the ongoing violence against Black men and women, I am grounded by the teachings of Dr. King Jr. In these times when fear and ignorance seem to be winning, I find hope in this quote:
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
It is love that has built such beautiful bridges between the diverse members of our school community.
It is times like these that those bridges are imperative to supporting one another. I am delighted by the response to our call for resources for our most vulnerable community members. We have raised over $5000 from individual donations. We hope this fund will continue to grow as our community partners join us with grants. PTA members, please be on the lookout for an email asking for your vote to donate to the Family Stabilization Fund. As you can imagine, many of our families are in need of support during this difficult time. On our school website you will find information on how to donate as well as how to apply for assistance.
In the next couple of weeks, we will learn about the plans for what instruction will look like in the fall for our students as well as any potential budget impacts for next year. I will pass on that information when it becomes available. No matter what the circumstances are, we will continue to center the needs of our historically under-served students and those most impacted by this switch to blended learning in an effort to minimize the long term impact on students.
I deeply appreciate being able to be part of this incredible community. I am thankful to each and everyone of you who have done anything you can to support your neighbors and community members.
