What is Summer Acceleration Academy?

Summer Acceleration Academy (SAA) is a no cost supplemental academic summer program focused on providing support for unfinished learning for current Kindergarten through Fifth grade students enrolled in PPS schools.
The student day includes:
- Targeted literacy instruction based on student needs (Kindergarten & 1st grade students in DLI classrooms will receive this instruction in Spanish);
- Math instruction focused on skill and language development, and building positive mathematical mindsets through discourse and writing;
- Hands-on project-based STEAM learning with Lego Robotics; and
- Social-Emotional Learning activities.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all participating students.
Transportation will be provided in the morning from neighborhood elementary schools.

Who attends Summer Acceleration Academy?

SAA invites students currently enrolled in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade whose Winter literacy assessments indicate a need for additional support.
The students in current grades K-5 who will be invited to participate in Summer Acceleration Academy are students who fall below grade level in reading, based on Winter 2026 literacy assessments.
Special Program Eligibility: In addition to student groups listed above, the following groups are automatically eligible or prioritized for enrollment:
- Newcomers (3–8): Students who moved to the U.S. within the last 2 years.
- Indian Education (K–8): All students within this program qualify.
- Siblings (K–5): Siblings of enrolled SAA students (if space allows).
Accommodations will be made for students who experience disabilities.
Enrollment for SAA is by invitation only.

When is Summer Acceleration Academy?

The program will run Monday through Friday from June 29 - July 30, 2026 from 7:45am - 12:30pm (closed July 3rd and 31st).
Families will have the opportunity to opt into afternoon enrichment programming at no cost from 12:30pm - 5:30pm. Space will be limited and a commitment to attendance is required.

SAA is hosted at four sites in the district, using a hub site model to cluster schools within geographic areas together for programming

Why Summer Acceleration Academy?

Our supplemental Summer Acceleration program is an excellent way for students to address unfinished learning by gaining proficiency in key grade-level skills, giving students a strong start to the next school year.
Invitations for Summer Acceleration Academy are based on mid-year assessments identifying students who need support reaching grade level standards in reading during this supplemental summer program.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I enroll?

Enrollment for SAA is by invitation only.

March 20, 2026: The first round of invitations will be sent directly to the families of prioritized eligible students.
April 6, 2026: All remaining invitations will be sent to families of eligible students.
May 15, 2026: All enrollment will close. Enrollment at each hub site and grade level prior to this date as capacity is reached.
May 22, 2026: Waitlisted families will receive an update on their enrollment status.

If you believe that your student meets the criteria listed above, and you haven't received an invitation by mid-April, please reach out to your school office.

A commitment to daily attendance is a requirement for enrollment, as spaces are limited.

When will enrollment open and close?

Enrollment is by invitation only, and will begin on March 20, 2026 for priority students. The second round of enrollment will open on April 6, 2026.
Enrollment will close as capacity is reached at each grade level and hub site. A waitlist will be established.
Final Enrollment Deadline: May 15, 2026, at 4pm.

Waitlist Notification: Families of waitlisted students will receive updates by May 22, 2026.

All students who met the criteria for SAA in grades K-5 were extended an invitation to attend. Invitations are based on Winter literacy assessment data, which identified those needing additional support to meet grade-level expectations. SAA is designed to offer tailored instruction that addresses unfinished learning, helping students build confidence and skills for the new school year.

My student wasn’t invited but I want to request for them to participate. What do I do?

Summer Acceleration Academy is designed as a full-session program, and enrollment is a commitment to attend for the entire duration (June 29–July 30). Because space is limited, we prioritize students who are able to participate consistently so they can benefit fully from the program and to ensure that spots are used effectively. Given your planned travel, this program may not be the best fit this summer. We encourage you to decline the invitation so the space can be offered to another student.
