Visitors to the Blanchard Education Service Center might be in a hurry to get to a meeting or have some business they want to attend to immediately. But we encourage anyone visiting the Portland Public Schools’ central office to pause and look at the walls.
PIL’s elite girls basketball event spotlights empowerment
The second Pacific Office Automation Holiday Classic was more than a premier girls basketball event at Franklin High School. The Portland Interscholastic League-hosted event, which was held Dec. 27-29, did indeed feature elite basketball, with a field that included most of the state’s top varsity teams. But it also had a theme of empowerment, encouraging "young women to think beyond today and to begin thinking about how sports can be a bridge to their future."
Open houses set for kindergartners-to-be and their families

Wanted: dedicated, enthusiastic individuals to join PPS as paraeducators
Portland Public Schools is looking to hire people who are passionate about helping students with developmental and educational disabilities to work as paraeducators.
Sports update: Benson girls, Grant boys win marquee basketball games
The Benson girls and Grant boys won key showdowns Saturday in the headline games of a Portland Interscholastic League showcase event at Marshall High School. The Benson girls dominated Grant in an 87-55 victory, and the Grant boys beat Jefferson 83-82 in the latest version of those teams run of tight games.
