The committee charged with finding a new identity for Franklin High School has come up with a list of six possible mascot names for the school’s community to consider. The 19-member Franklin Mascot Identification Committee – which includes students, staff, alumni, family members and community members -- identified these possible names:
Benson celebrates state championship Benson High School held an all-school assembly Monday, and the featured attraction was a celebration of the school’s first state championship in girls basketball. The Techsters had beaten two-time defending champion Southidge 66-42 in the Class 6A final nine days earlier, and the student body and staff gathered to celebrate with the players and coach Eric Knox.
PPS launches pilot program for new drinking water stations Portland Public Schools will conduct a pilot program at six schools in an effort to find a cost-efficient way to make more drinking water options available throughout the district.
Superintendent set to appear at 14th All Born (in) Conference
For the second year in a row, Portland Public Schools Superintendent Guadalupe Guerrero will give the welcome address at the All Born (in) Cross-disability Best Practices Educational Inclusion Conference when the event’s 14th staging is held on Saturday, April 6 at the Holiday Inn Portland Airport.
Awards & Honors: Lincoln senior named Oregon Student Journalist of the Year Lincoln High School senior Sagarika Ramachandran has been selected as the winner of the Oregon Student Journalist of the Year Award. Sagarika, who serves as editor-in-chief of Lincoln's student newspaper, the Cardinal Times, became the first journalist from a PPS school to win the award, which started in 2005.
