A mystery of curiosity and cultural significance was dug up on the grounds of Lincoln High School. A time capsule, gifted from the class of 1969 to the class of 2019, was to be opened during the school’s sesquicentennial celebration. With a hammer and chisel the cylinder was pried open, and to find out what is inside, you’ll have to watch the video.
PPS improving student health, with help from partnerships and grants
Over the last year there has been a groundswell of activity around improving student health and wellness in Portland Public Schools. Aided by partnerships that have resulted in PPS receiving three grants totaling about $3 million, the district’s Health Education and Student Support Services teams have been able to bring innovative programming and new staff to PPS’s health education efforts.
MLC students celebrate opening of new playground
Students at Metropolitan Learning Center celebrated the opening of the new playground at Couch Park by holding an assembly, then heading outside to try out the new, inclusive structures. Couch Park, which is on the same PPS-owned property as MLC, has not had a full playground for five years after decades of wear forced Portland Parks & Recreation, which operates it, to shut it down. The city rebuilt it with funding from several sources, including the MLC PTSA's Friends of Couch Playground, the 2014 Parks Replacement Bond, Metro and Harper's Playground.
