Principal's Message ~ Start of School9/11/2020
First, I hope you are safe. The effect of the wild fires weighs on each of us. We have had teachers who have lost power and internet connection. Some needed to evacuate their homes and others are supporting family members who have fled the fires. We want to give space for students who are trying to process any trauma that these fires have caused. Our school psychologist, Alex Roth, and school social worker, Michelle Hardaway, will be available everyday next week from 12:00 - 1:00 to provide support for students. Our teachers are ready to start the regular schedule with students to engage in their subject areas. We want students to develop a regular habit of going to school every day and engaging in their classes. Attendance is taken for all periods, both synchronous and asynchronous. During the asynchronous times in the afternoons and in the mornings on Wednesday, students should use that allotted time to go to the Canvas classroom and work on the activities that have been posted by the teacher. We know that life circumstances may preclude a student from engaging in the asynchronous learning during the scheduled times. In those instances, students will still need to engage in the activity some time during that day in order to be counted as present. Asynchronous learning is not optional. Asynchronous learning presents another format in which both the student and teacher may engage with each other and the curricular content. You will see the term ‘applied learning’ listed in the schedule as well and this refers to independent learning time for the student which may include doing homework or preparing for the synchronous class.
Our counselors have been working tirelessly to make schedule changes and fix schedules. Your student’s accurate schedule will be in StudentVue/ParentVue. Canvas is synched with StudentVue on a nightly basis. So, if a counselor makes a schedule change on Friday, the Canvas classes for your student should be updated on Saturday.
