Glencoe Weekly Newsletter9/4/2020
Dear Glencoe Families,
I hope this first week of our Soft Start went smoothly and all the students enjoyed meeting their teachers. For those of you with 1st -5th graders, I hope your child also enjoyed meeting his/her classmates. We have one more week of our soft start in which our 9:00 class meetings will continue (or start as is the case with our Kindergarteners). If you have not yet met with your child’s teacher, my hope is you have a time already scheduled. Every teacher has sent out invites to sign up for a teacher/family meeting and will be following up with families who have not yet signed up.
I can imagine there were some bumps along the way, maybe a tech issue or two, and many emails to sort through. I have heard from some of you that you are feeling information overload. I understand and our goal is to streamline things for you. At the moment, teachers are doing their best to reach you and give you all the current information. As we get going, the communication will occur on a more regular schedule. As a Glencoe Family you will receive a School Newsletter each Friday from me. Right now, they will just be in a letter from me. When classes get up and running, the Newsletter will have additional items such as school assemblies, events to calendar, specific announcements from our specialists like Library, Music, PE and Counselor when applicable.
Here are a few helpful tips as we get closer to our more academic schedule. You can find the full article at this LINK.
● Create a learning space
● Make a schedule and stick to it
● Reduce distractions
● Have a calendar and color code it
● Get plenty of exercise
● Familiarize yourself with the technology and learn what systems can help your child
● Reach out to your teacher - utilize their office hours if you can
Next Week on Thursday, September 9th and Friday, September 10th we will be handing out basic school supplies for ALL families. You can drive/walk up anytime between 9:30 - 3:30. Staff will be on the front sidewalk to greet you. If you are in a car, we ask that you have a sign with your child’s first and last name and grade level. If you are walking up, you are required to wear a mask. The supplies are sorted by kits for K-2 and 3-5. This is a basic kit to get you started. Your child’s grade level may have a few other items in the bag, specific to the start of the year. As this runs low, families will need to replenish on their own. If this is a barrier for your family, please let your teacher or our counselor, Mrs. Gardner, firstname.lastname@example.org know when the time comes. Where we can, we will support you with the resources you need.

Glencoe’s Back to School Night will be a little different this year. Obviously, it will be held virtually and we are going to have a Back to School week to accommodate families with multiple children. Each grade level has chosen a night within the week to “open their classroom to families”. There will be two sessions starting at 6:00 & 6:40, running 30 minutes in length. We will provide more details as to the virtual event itself the closer we get but I wanted to get the dates to you now. The dates for each grade are below:
Last but not least, I wanted to make sure you have a link to our district Family Resource Page that includes information for:
● Videos/Slides to help understand our Platforms (Seesaw, Clever, Google Meets, Remind)
● Videos/Slides to help you log-on, troubleshoot wifi issues etc.
● Requesting a Device or Hotspot
● School Meals/Distribution
● Help with PPS Computers
● Student Health Centers
We are continuing to answer phones when we can but we are checking school messages multiple times a day. Feel free to leave a message with your name and best number to contact you.
Have a wonderful weekend,
