Dear PPS Students, Families and Staff,

As we finalize our last Back to School FAQ sections, we wanted to share with you a couple of updates. First, the district’s Office of Internal Performance Audit recently presented to the Board of Education its audit of our health and safety practices for hybrid learning last spring. We are pleased and proud to say that auditors reported no findings. From last week’s presentation:

Based on the results of the audit overall, we found the school buildings, where students participated in in-person instruction during the 2020-21 school year, were compliant with their School Site Reopening Plans. Further, as public health guidelines continue to be updated, it appears the school district has created a process through its internal Health and Safety Team to update applicable SOPs and efficiently and effectively disseminate updated guidance to impacted stakeholders.

Congratulations to all PPS employees who worked countless hours to implement health and safety processes and protocols necessary to re-open schools for hybrid in-person instruction. The Health and Safety Audit Report with no findings or recommendations is a reflection of your hard work and dedication.

Second, we announced yesterday a COVID-19 vaccination mandate for all PPS staff. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have followed the guidance of public health experts to best ensure the health and well being of our students and staff members. The State of Oregon has communicated that local school districts are in the best position to determine further measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In alignment with public health experts’ recommendations, Portland Public Schools and our labor partners are committed to taking every step possible to ensure the health and safety of our students, employees, and community.

You can find more about our vaccination mandate for staff, the details of which are being worked out with our labor partners, by clicking here

Finally, we expect to share FAQs on Meals and COVID-19 Testing in the coming days. In addition, we will be updating all of our FAQs as additional information becomes available. You can find answers to your most common questions about this year’s health and safety measures on our PPS.net/BacktoSchool2021 webpage.

    Thank you.
