• Letter from the Principal

    March 14, 2019
    Dear Hayhurst Community,

    It’s that time of year again, when I get our staffing numbers from the district and I need to make it work for our school. This year the district is looking at large cuts across the city. This is hard, as it affects our school and the ways we have become accustomed too. The 2019-20 school year will now look a bit different at Hayhurst.

    The good news is: Debi Crawford will be at Hayhurst Full time for art. James Winkler will be full time for PE. Roxanne Davidson will be full time for Counseling. I am hiring a full time media specialist who we will share with Odyssey, and Laura Jones will work on both campuses. The school will have Principal (me) who will be shared with Odyssey similar to this year. The Secretary will be Kathy Lee.

    The sad news/bad news is: Fran Barth and the tech program had to be cut. This will be very hard on our school, and we will need to find new ways to keep technology as part of our curriculum.

    As you can see below we have consolidated our teacher/classrooms and class sizes will be bigger in a couple of grade levels.

    The following is the current staffing for 2019-20:

    Kindergarten = Martha Heller
    Kindergarten = Amy Kowalski
    Kindergarten = Kelsey Williams (next year will be Mrs. Kelsey Block)

    First Grade= Karen Bunnell
    First Grade = open
    First Grade = Jessica Charlton/job share .50 open

    2nd Grade = Kathryn Anderson
    2nd Grade = open

    3rd Grade = JJ Aalto
    3rd Grade = Melissa Morgan
    3rd Grade = Kathrine Eichman

    4/5 Grade = LaPrincea Escovedo
    4/5 Grade = Jo Swake
    4/5 Grade = Mary Bokoske
    4/5 Grade = Chelsea Lane

    SES k12 = Amy Shoemaker and three para educators
    SES 345 = Lee Kamery and two para educators

    Blake Engeldorf and Susie Goetz will be here for the Resource/SPED. Peter Puvell will continue as the ESL teacher.

    This year I will not be taking any parent requests. Except for extraordinary circumstances. The teachers and I will work hard to make balanced classrooms and best meet the needs of our students.

    Wish I had better news to share. This is a very difficult for everyone, but we will move forward and make next year a great year!

    Deanne Froehlich
