    Head Lice

Kelly families, head lice in elementary aged children is a common issue. It is also frustrating when there are repeated incidents with your own child. While we do not "mass inspect" or send notices home (per Oregon Dept of Education), we do encourage regular inspection of your child's head and hair.

Treatment of the "bugs" and nits (eggs) is a laborious process. Not only is an appropriate shampoo required, but fine combing each strand with the special, lice treatment comb MUST be used to affect complete removal. This combing is the most important part of the process. Additionally, treating the entire house, talking with kids about not sharing hats, brushes, etc. are also important.

Facilities Upgrades at Kelly for Health and Safety

Over the coming weeks and months, you will continue to see upgrades to our Kelly facility thanks to the community support in the last bond that provided funds to address health and safety in our schools. Kelly was chosen as a priority school to invest in. Here is what you can expect to see:

    • Increased exterior cameras and motion sensor lighting
    • Front door buzzer to keep all doors locked during the day
    • Electronic ADA accessible front door
    • Carpet replacement in the library
    • Roofing replacement and/or repairs this summer

SUN School Incident on Thursday February 27th

Last Thursday a Kelly student reported to Cristina Helvie, our SUN site manager, that there were community members on the playground showing off their knives. Ms. Cristina made the decision to put the school into lock out (bring students in and lock exterior doors) to ensure safety of all students and SUN staff. The SUN celebration was able to continue without incident.
