Hybrid Survey
Families, you should have received an email asking you to complete a survey regarding hybrid options for this school year. It is important to the district’s planning for families to complete this survey. If you have questions, please reach out to Kelly administration, Ms. Fish - sfish@pps.net or Mrs. Marchyok - tmarchyok@pps.net

K-5 Explore Your Options Event
Did you know that Kelly Elementary is home to the only Russian Immersion dual language program in Portland Public Schools? And we are 1 of only 4 programs in the United States! Interested in learning more about our program as well as other focus option programs across the district? Plan to attend a virtual Explore Your Options event next Thursday, February 18, 6-8 p.m. This event will be held via this Zoom link. Language interpretation will be available in Spanish, Russian, Somali, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin, and American Sign Language.
Our Russian Immersion program is open to ALL students and is a K-12 program, feeding into Lane Middle School and Franklin High School. Students who complete a K-12 immersion program graduate with college language credit, are bilingual and have a more well-rounded transcript. If you have questions about our Russian Immersion program, please reach out to Kelly admin, Sarah Fish - sfish@pps.net or Terry Marchyok - tmarchyok@pps.net .
Limited In Person Instruction (LIPI)
Students will be invited to attend limited in person instruction based on engagement thus far in the school year. We are starting with a small group size as we have limited staff to support this instruction. Our goal is to begin limited in person instruction at the beginning of March.
MAP Testing
Thank you to all of the Grades 3-5 students, teachers and families for supporting MAP testing as we got started this week! Some students encountered some technical difficulties but eventually most students were able to log in a begin their test session. Next week, students will engage in the Math MAP assessment.
Click here to review a parent guide about this assessment. Your student’s teacher will provide further information about when the test will be given. The district will provide your student’s scores to you following the assessment window.
Please support your child with having their camera on and mics muted during MAP testing. This allows teachers to better monitor students during the testing time. We are also hearing that the testing platform works best on a Chromebook. If you need a Chromebook, please contact the school office to arrange a pick-up.
Black Excellence in Portland Project
I’m thrilled to share our first student led interview with a local Black leader in Portland. This project was designed with students to learn more about Black leaders in Portland who are examples of excellence. As an additional way to celebrate Black History month, our students wanted to learn about and share the work of present day Black leaders who are making Portland a more inclusive and positive place. We will be sharing the link to the recorded interviews below. We encourage you to watch with your students and learn about these amazing people.

Successful Schools Survey for Students and Families
Families: There is also a survey for families to share their perspective on Kelly school climate. Go to surveys.panoramaed.com/portlandor/ppsfamily and select Kelly to share your input. Our leadership team is looking forward to hearing from as many Kelly families as possible to inform our school improvement work. We hope to get 50% family participation for this survey.
Schoolwide SEL Theme: Kindness
We are celebrating Kindness this month at Kelly. We hope you and your student find ways to talk about the importance of kindness and ways we can strengthen our community through kindness. This month’s Flipgrid is about Kindness. Check it out with your student. Students will be able to submit one video but can respond to as many students as they would like to. Videos and comments are moderated by Kelly admin each day, so it may take a day to load your video. I can’t wait to see our Kelly Cougars share about Kindness https://flipgrid.com/9e8897bb
