• Welcome Back 2022-23 School Year!

    Dear Kelly Families,

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! We are excited to welcome all of our students and staff back to the building.  Last year we transitioned back to in person learning after a year of virtual learning through a pandemic. We focused on school readiness skills such as social emotional learning, behavioral expectations, routines and procedures, and foundational reading skills in addition to our core academic standards in reading, math and science. This year, we are going to continue our focus on core academic standards and work to improve our student achievement in both reading and math. Based on data, we have identified the following three priority goals for our school:

    1. By June of 2023, we will  increase our percentage of favorable responses for “Feel a Sense of Belonging”  from 56% to 66% for all students and from 34% to 66% for Asian students, from 46% to 66% or Hispanic / Latino / Latinx students, and from 44% to 66%  for transgender students, as measured  by the Panorama Successful Schools Student Survey.

    2. By May of 2023, accelerate growth for our Black and Latinx students, moving from 29% of our Black 3rd grade Black students and 33% of our Latinx students meeting reading growth targets to 100% of those groups (2021-22 Board target is 60%) meeting or exceeding growth expectations as measured by MAP.

    3. By May of 2023, accelerate growth for our Latinx, Native American and Pacific Islander students, moving from 13% of our Latinx students, 0% of our Native American students and 0% of our Pacific Islander students meeting math growth targets to 100% of those groups (2021-22 Board target is 60%) meeting or exceeding growth expectations, as measured by MAP.

Last Spring and over the summer, our school campus experienced some positive updates! GBD Architects along with SignsNow designed and installed beautiful directional signs in both English and Russian. These signs communicate to students, staff and visitors where to find common locations within the building. GBD Architects also spent Friday, August 5 redesigning and cleaning up our courtyard space for students to use as a sensory exploration area. We are grateful to have GBD Architects as one of our community partners - BIG shout-out to all of their hard work! Additionally, our PTA painted paw prints by the main office entrance as well as by our arrival and dismissal gate.

We are excited to host our annual Community Care Day on Saturday, August 27, 9am-12pm to clean up specific areas around our school campus. Tools, water and snacks will be provided to all volunteers and we will have a Kona Ice truck here at noon for all volunteers to enjoy a cold treat.. Please sign up here (https://forms.gle/vYND8YorsuFm7NTp7)  to help us plan for this event.

We look forward to working with you to make our school a warm and caring place for everyone and to make this a great year for your student(s) to grow and thrive!

    Family Communication

We primarily use the Remind app to communicate to families throughout the year. Please make sure to sign up for this important communication tool. This app also translates into many of the languages that are present within our school. Visit this website for more information: https://www.pps.net/Page/15513

We post our Family Newsletter every Friday afternoon during the school year to our school’s website (www.pps.net/kelly). Our website is a wonderful resource to find up-to-date and important information.

Teachers will also utilize the Remind app to send individual, class and school-wide messages to families. Please make sure you are signed up with Remind. You can visit this webpage, https://www.pps.net/Page/15513, for more information.

Arrival - Be Here and Ready to Learn Together at 8:35 am

8:35 am:  All students will enter through the East gate, which is located on SE 91st Avenue between Kelly Elementary and Kelly Head Start. The gate will open at 8:35am. Students and families need to line up outside of the gate until the bell rings. Please do not enter the gate to play under the covered area or on the playground. Families must say “goodbye” to students at the gate.

8:45 am:  The tardy bell rings and the gate closes. Students who arrive after 8:45 am will need to enter through the main office entrance and check in with our office staff.

We are asking families to say their goodbyes at the gate so that students can join their teacher and classmates and get started with their instructional day. If you need to contact your student’s teacher, please use the Remind app to reach out.

3:00 pm: The dismissal bell rings. Bus riders and students enrolled in SUN or Champions will head to their locations. Teachers will walk car riders and walkers outside to meet up with families. Families must meet students in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade under the covered area. Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will meet their families at a designated location as arranged by the family. Families, please do not double park, park in the middle of the street or block a neighbor’s driveway.

Students who are not picked up by 3:07pm will be returned to the main office and office staff will work to call families. Please be on time and if an emergency arises and you are unable to pick up on time, please call the school ahead of time. Our office closes at 3:30pm and all students must be picked up by then.
