Family Newsletter September 23rd
9/23/2022September 23, 2022 - Kelly Family Newsletter
Together, we will - Together, we grow and thrive - Вместе мы растём и развиваемся.
Dear Families,
We had a wonderful turnout for our first in-person Back-to-School Night since before the COVID pandemic. It was so nice to see so many families, current students, future students and past students! Thank you to everyone for your patience as we served dinner. Special shout-out to our community partners who provided lots of valuable information and fun giveaways: SUN, P3 and Latino Network; PTA; Champions; Growing Gardens; and Learning Ally with the Shadow Project.
Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month: September 15-October 15
We would like to recognize Noell Mayoral, one of our amazing front office support staff. Here, he shares his experience growing up Latino:
Growing up with immigrant parents, education played a large part in my childhood. Education gave me access to opportunities that my family wouldn't have been able to provide me. These opportunities allowed me to meet other people and find my own community, something that can be difficult when seperated from much of my extended family. Learning about Hispanic history and culture also helped me maintain a connection with my extended family.
Important Dates
September 15-October 15:Celebrate Latinx Heritage Month
Thursday, September 29: PTA Meeting, 3:30pm, Kelly Elementary Library
Monday, October 3: Fall SUN Session Begins
Friday, October 14: Professional Development Day; No School for Students
*Picture Day has been moved to October 24 so staff and students celebrating Yom Kippur are not excluded*
Arrival
Students should wait outside of the East gate, outside of the gate by the Head Start building or at the end of the walking path from SE 87th to the school (closest to the futsal court). Our first bell is at 8:35 and that’s when students will be allowed on campus to enter the building. Families, please say “goodbye” to your child at the gate. Families are not allowed inside the school during arrival.
Dismissal
Dismissal is at 3pm. Kindergarten through 2nd grade students are dismissed under the covered area. Third through fifth grade students dismiss out of the parking lot doors. The older students often meet up with families and siblings at a designated location. After 3:07pm, any remaining student is brought to the front of the school outside of the main entrance. The office closes at 3:30pm so all students MUST be picked up no later than 3:30. If you have an emergency and are going to be late, please call our office to notify them.
Please see this link for additional traffic safety reminders. Student safety is our #1 priority. Students should not cross the street except at designated crosswalks.
