• May 4 - Letter to the Community

    Mr. Rowell

    Dear Lane Families,

I want to share information with you about a very concerning incident that occurred on Friday, April 30th. I want to praise the quick thinking and safety awareness of the student involved. I am sharing this information as a way of raising awareness and encouraging families to make plans with their students' safety in mind -- please work with us in protecting the identity and right to privacy of the student involved.

On Friday, April 30th, a student was waiting on SE Glenwood and SE 92nd for her bus when she was approached by an older white male in a newer silver dodge pickup truck. He was heavier set and wearing a baseball cap. The license plate was not recorded. The student reacted swiftly and safely and received immediate support from her family.

We will be sharing general safety information with students through our advisory program. Please speak with your student about how to respond to any unknown adult approaching them in public. I encourage all families to have a safety plan for their students, including multiple points of contact so that a student always has a safe adult to talk to and a safe place to go. Here is more information about how to keep your student safe while they are out in the community.

Middle School College and Career Readiness Event
