News from Lane: Celebrations, Updates and Reminders
9/26/2022Greetings Lane Students, Families, and Community Friends!
I hope you all had time to rest, relax and have a little fun over the weekend! I want to start by saying “thank you” to everyone who came out to support our Back-to-School Night (BSN). It was great seeing each of you and we are looking forward to a great year of partnership with you. Though I realize that racing from class to class in three minutes is not ideal for most adults, I hope that you were able to walk away with a better understanding of your student’s daily routines and what learning will look like in the days and weeks ahead.
As I shared during the presentation at BSN,
Our vision is to provide every scholar an engaging, fun and rigorous learning experience where they can explore their identities, build confidence, feel a sense of belonging and thrive.
-and-
In partnership with families and community, our mission is to create a learner-centered culture that unlocks opportunities for social-emotional connection and academic acceleration for every child.
This is only possible when we work together to ensure that our schools are safe, our classrooms are staffed with highly qualified teachers, and our students have the materials, support and resources necessary to reach their highest potential.
School Safety and Social Media
Speaking of safety, it has been reported that several students may have access to or be actively engaged in a social media account that does not reflect our school values - Accountable, Safe, and Kind. Please talk with your child about “social media safety” and how to avoid sites/group chats that might be harmful to their social, emotional and physical health.
There has also been reports of students engaging in "games" that target other students’ cultural heritage, sexual orientation, and physical and emotional health. We are actively seeking to learn more about these reported activities in order to address them immediately. Please encourage your student(s) to reach out to any adult in the building if they ever feel unsafe or witness others engaging in unsafe acts - see something, say something!
Also, please remind students that Lane MS is a closed campus. After arriving, students are not allowed to leave the campus for any reason until dismissal (3:45pm), unless signed out by a parent/guardian as designated in Synergy.
Chromebooks
On a lighter note, chromebooks have been distributed to every student! Students should bring their charged chromebooks to school every day, ready to engage in a fun and exciting blended-learning experience.
Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)
As I mentioned at our BSN, the PTO is a great way for care-givers to get involved at Lane. One way you can help out is by signing up as a PPS volunteer at this site! We will need many volunteers to chaperone field trips this year. Our PTO meets in-person at Lane. Ms. Truhlar will be hosting the next meeting on October 6th from 4 to 5 pm in our cafeteria. All care-givers and staff members are welcome! Check out this site for more LMS PTO information.

We appreciate your support and look forward to partnering with you throughout the year.
