When Janet Do arrived at her job at Whitman Elementary School on Monday, she had no idea what awaited her. Do, a first-grade teacher, was awarded a $25,000 Milken Educator Award in a surprise ceremony at the Southeast Portland school.
Columbia Regional Program students get hands-on with animals at Oregon Zoo Students from the Columbia Regional Program took a trip to the Oregon Zoo for an exclusive chance to meet and learn about a variety of animals. The visit included talking to a veterinarian who was examining a cougar, and getting to pet the cougar while it was under anesthesia! Thank you to the Oregon Zoo for providing this special experience.

Over 60 students attend Student Council Summit Students representing each class from the nine PPS high schools met at Cleveland High School on Dec. 1 for district-wide Student Council Summit coordinated by student Board member, Nick Paesler.
SafeOregon brochures available for PPS community
Since September 2017, Portland Public Schools has been encouraging its community to utilize the SafeOregon tip line to report unsafe situations, whether they involve threats of violence, fights, drugs and alcohol, weapons, bullying, harassment, intimidation, or self-harm.
Awards & Honors: Lincoln High publications earn ‘Best of Show’ recognition Two publications produced by Lincoln High School students earned awards at the recent Fall Media Day event hosted by the University of Oregon and Scholastic Press.
The Cardinal Times was awarded first place in the “Best of Show” listing for high school newspapers. Entrants were asked to submit a copy of their best publication of the last 12 months, with issues judged on coverage, writing, visuals and layout.
