The Portland Public Schools Board of Education will have at least three new members starting in the 2019-20 school year. Four seats will be up for grabs during the Tuesday, May 21, special election.
Jefferson High set to debut 1st full play in 9 years Weeks of hard work by Jefferson High School students will culminate with a two-night run of “Clue: On Stage,” in the first staging of a full play at the school in nine years. Students rallied around English teacher Ellie McIvor-Baker’s effort to bring drama back to the school, and the result is a run of the famed murder-mystery comedy on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the school’s auditorium.
While we were away: Jason Lee wins award for focus on health; Blazers’ Seth Curry supports students; and more PPS Pulse took a two-week hiatus for spring break, but activities in our district kept right on churning before and after the break. Some of the things that happened since our last issue:
Grant students get preview of their modernized campus
Several Grant High School sophomores and juniors are getting a preview of their modernized campus through tours of the buildings this spring. Students learn about the 900-seat theater and art complex, and the new 100-seat “forums” that will serve multiple purposes. Grant’s principal, Carol Campbell, and her students share their excitement leading up to the Sept. 7 grand opening.
Coming up: HeART of Portland art showcase, Lincoln’s 150the celebration, special education resource fair Lincoln High School senior Sagarika Ramachandran has been selected as the winner of the Oregon Student Journalist of the Year Award. Sagarika, who serves as editor-in-chief of Lincoln's student newspaper, the Cardinal Times, became the first journalist from a PPS school to win the award, which started in 2005.
