Could you pass the U.S. citizenship test? Maybe. Maybe not. Some questions may surprise people who were born and raised in this country, and certainly could be a challenge for newcomers. That’s why eight Roosevelt High School students spend their Wednesday evenings teaching the ins and outs of the test to more than 50 immigrants through the Mission: Citizen program.
Board report: Resolution passed to change mascot of Franklin High School
Franklin High School will need to change its nickname after the Board of Education ruled that the current name of Quakers violates a district policy.
PPS delegation visits Finland schools to find out what works there
A delegation of 25 Portland Public Schools students, teachers and administrators, along with architects and a Board of Education member, traveled to Finland in April to observe how the school system there achieves such high outcomes for students.

Teaching, learning and research drive ACCESS’s Alfonso Garcia Arriola
Sixteen sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade ACCESS students wrangle with paper glider parts in their elective science class. Their task is to create a glider that will fly, and in the process learn about the physics of flight through this hands-on lesson.
Middle schools update: Harriet Tubman getting new roof, ACCESS decision close
Here is the latest progress report on the opening of new middle schools at Harriet Tubman and Roseway Heights, as well as other schools affected by the moves:
NBC News features Lincoln’s CardsCook Club
More kudos for the CardsCook Club. The Lincoln High School group prepares meals for homeless teens in Portland. Recently CardsCook received national attention when NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt interviewed its students.

The final day of school for the 2017-18 school year in Portland Public Schools will remain Friday, June 8, as scheduled. No additional days have been added for the two weather events that affected classes.
My Voice: Woodlawn students push for fair representation
The models on the cover of the fundraising brochure didn’t look like most of the people in their community, and they didn’t like it. In this week’s edition of My Voice, we find out what Woodlawn’s Green Team students did about it.
Cover photo: Harrison Park School held its 2nd Annual Multicultural Night last week. The largest K-8 school in the district, Harrison Park has the most languages spoken among its families, and the event reflected that diversity. See more photos from the event.
