Dear PPS Community,
Each year, Portland Public Schools (PPS) offers all 11th grade student an opportunity to take a college test, free of charge, during the school day. For the 2019-20 school year, all 11th grade students will take the SAT on March 4, 2020.
There were a number of reasons PPS chose the SAT and two reasons include:
- The SAT aligns to the PSAT that all of our 10th grade students currently take each year. This alignment means that school staff and families can use the PSAT test results to support students to improve on the SAT in 11th grade.
- Students will have access to the free Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy. Once students connect their College Board and Khan Academy accounts, they will receive personalized SAT practice questions based on their results from the PSAT. Initial data show that 20 hours of studying on Khan Academy is associated with an average SAT score gain of 115 points.
Here is how to connect the student’s College Board and Khan Academy accounts to access the free practice test. Please contact Aurora Terry Hymel or Joseph Suggs at 503-916-2000 if you have any questions.
