    Dear McDaniel Families,

At McDaniel High School, our values are Community, Respect, Education, Equity, and Diversity (C.R.E.E.D.).  A rise in anti-Asian hate has taken place since the Covid-19 pandemic. For the past year, Asian American Pacific Islanders have suffered over 3,000 racist acts of verbal and physical assault.  A recent article/radio segment on NPR (National Public Radio) and other sources say that the increase in hate crimes against Asian Americans has continued to rise over the last year.

We know that some of our Asian American Pacific Island students and families may have experienced hate speech and physical assaults in the community.

All students should feel safe at school and in their communities. SafeOregon gives kids, parents, schools, and their communities a way to report safety threats or potential acts of violence.  If you or your student want to use the Safe Oregon reporting system, you can report concerns anonymously. As we plan to welcome students back, we will work with our community partners and student organizations to make sure there are supports in place for students.

    -Principal Adam Skyles
