    Dear PPS Community,

On Monday, January 31, Portland Public Schools teachers and staff will have a day to collaborate and plan for the start of the second semester, with no classes held for students on that day. This comes after the PPS Board of Education, at a special meeting on Tuesday, unanimously voted to turn January 31 into a staff collaboration and planning day for school-based staff, creating an opportunity for school staff to work on campus-specific school climate plans and instructional practices to support the diverse needs of our students.

CalendarFriday, January 28 is already a scheduled, end-of-semester grading and planning day for educators, with no classes for students. Students will return to school in-person on Tuesday, February 1. To see an updated 2021-2022 school calendar, please click the image to the right.

We recognize that any changes to our school calendar impacts each of our families in unique ways. We continue to be grateful and appreciative of your patience and flexibility as we navigate this school year–one unlike any other. We are making plans with our culturally-specific community partners to provide enrichment opportunities at many of our schools across our city on January 31. We will share more information with families next week.

Lastly, I want to take this opportunity to thank our school-based staff and classroom educators. We recognize that this year in particular, you’ve extended an extra hand to support one another,  in service of our students. This school year has been personally and professionally taxing, and we hope this additional collaboration and planning time will strengthen our collective efforts to educate our students.
