School News to Know
Cheers to our first full week as a K-8, and the first, official week of public school for our new kindergarten students! Everyone is beginning to settle into the pace of the school day, classroom communities are forming, and before we know it, fall will be upon us. We are enjoying the sun while it’s here, but looking forward to some cooler temperatures next week. Thank you for helping us successfully kick off the school year...it’s going to be a great one!
One announcement for families: we have changed out 1st--5th grade lunch and recess schedule and could use volunteer help in the cafeteria between 12 pm--1 pm. If you’re interested in helping at this time, please email Alix or Amy directly (email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org).
Have a great weekend!
-Amy and Alix

SES BottleDrop fundraiser: Get your blue bag in the office (NEW)
Have returnable bottles and cans piling up around the house? Drop by the SES office, pick up a blue bag and tag, and help us raise money for the Go Fund. Donating is easy: Just grab a bag and SES barcode sticker, fill the bag with returnables and turn the bag into a BottleDrop or BottleDrop Express redemption center. (Find one here.)
It's THAT easy. Drop by the office and pick up your bag and sticker to get started.Middle School field study emergency chaperone list (NEW)
Because middle school classes travel every Thursday, and because each trip requires chaperones, a PTSA volunteer maintains an emergency chaperone list for middle school teachers. Some classes are flush with chaperones, while others struggle to find them. Each MS teachers would have a copy of the list so they could call any one of us to fill needed chaperone slots. Volunteers will get to know new kids, parents and teachers, all while saving the day for a MS teacher. Willingness to fill spots in classes other than your kiddo's is much appreciated—you don’t even need to be the parent of a middle school kid to volunteer. Would you be willing to put your name on the last-minute chaperone list? If so, contact email@example.com. Thanks so much!Volunteering at SES
As most of you know, SES’s innovative place-based environmental education program includes amazing trips and field studies at all grade levels. (By middle school students spend every Thursday outside of the school building!) And one of the things that makes these trips possible is you: Our amazing network of volunteer chaperones.
Your children’s teachers will ask you to sign up for field trips. (I know that some of you already have requests!) Please sign up to help out … and please first make sure you have an active background check on file with PPS. To check the status of your background check, please visit this page. If you don’t have a background check on file (or if your background check has expired), please submit a new request. Doing so takes on a couple of minutes, and the check is good for a three-year period.
If you believe that, as part of any field trip, you’ll transport students in your vehicle, please pick up a Driver/Vehicle Statement of Qualification Form from the front office.Picture Days

Want to spend a fun weekend at SES Family Camp on the coast this spring? We're also finalizing the date of SES's Westwind Family Camp geared toward current families. We would love to get as much input as possible about a preferred date for the community. So...I'm sending a survey out to help pick the date for 2020. May the favorite date win! Feel free to tip the scales for your favorite weekend and share with friends not on this list, and tell them to fill out the survey...we want to fill camp, and want people to be able to have some say about when it will be held. Questions about the spring trip can be directed at me: email@example.com or 503-475-8529. Click here for the spring 2020 survey! Please fill out by 9/15.
