School News (NEW)
Dear Sunnyside Community,It has been wonderful seeing so many of you at our Back to School Nights. Thank you for coming! First and second grade families, we can’t wait to see you on Wednesday the 21st!
We have asked folks to fill out the Free and Reduced Lunch form, even if you think you may not qualify or won’t be picking up meals. This is because much of our funding for staffing, materials and programming is based on having accurate numbers of families who qualify for free or reduced meals. Families need to re-apply every year, and this year it’s more important than ever to have an accurate count on this. Eligibility for free meals has been expanded through the state of Oregon—please check here to fill out the application.
And to our Middle School Community
On Thursday the 15th, students rotated to a new Specials class for the remainder of this quarter. Attendance in our classes has been averaging about 85%. We would like to see more students in our synchronous classes and for students to know how to make up the work due to absences.Art with Indigo: Full participation in synchronous class includes completing at least 3 compliments a week on Padlet and the exit ticket through Google Form both links are given in the chat at the end of class. If you are unable to come to our synchronous Art class please send me an email and look at the slides from class that week. Website link: https://sites.google.com/pps.net/ artwithindigoses20-21. In addition, go to the Padlet gallery and add some compliments. Exciting news!!!! The district has provided spiral bound sketchbooks for each middle school student. They are available at Sunnyside to be picked up from the library on Mondays & Fridays.
P.E. w/ Iris: Students are expected to participate in live PE classes with cameras on and complete the exit ticket and/or additional (asynch) PE assignment.
Library with Gillian: Full participation in synchronous classes includes attending the live instruction period plus completing asynchronous work before the next class meeting (work time is given during synchronous class time).
Science with Sarah: Students are expected to attend and participate in the weekly class. They have options of showing, saying, or writing their response to questions. They will also be invited to bring a few simple materials to each class. There are no asynchronous assignments until we begin a longer chemistry unit after the introduction rotation weeks.
Thank you, Sunnyside. We are so grateful to be a part of this incredible community.
Kindly,
Alix and Amy

Websites to KnowSocial gatherings in Sunnyside Park (NEW)
Dear SES Community,I wanted to share some important information about in person “meet ups” on the school grounds. So far we have held 12 different family informational sessions, and we also have three back-to-school nights coming up over the next week. One of the themes that has come out of those meetings is that our students are feeling lonely, some are feeling isolated, and many kids and their home adults are yearning for human, face-to-face connection.

PPS Distance Learning to Continue Through January 28
The following letter was emailed from PPS to families on October 7:
Dear PPS Families and Staff,
At last evening’s Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Guerrero announced plans to extend Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) through the second quarter, which ends January 28. This decision is based on the latest public health data; we are hopeful that our next announcement shortly after winter break will be different, as we would much prefer to be back in our school buildings.
