    School News (NEW)
    Hello Sunnyside Families,
I cannot tell you how delighted I was today to meet parents at our morning coffee and see your smiling faces. What a lovely treat on a sunny Friday. After coffee, I got to see the kinder parade and the absolute joy of our students as they supported one another. This is my absolute favorite thing about being a school principal. Next week is our 8th grade retreat off campus and our 6/7 retreat on campus and we are planning for a middle school dance in April. Thank you to all of you for supporting our school and our students and I hope you get a chance to come have coffee with us next time or get to volunteer so you can see some of the magic that makes Sunnyside the place it is!
I know that with masks being optional starting Monday, families are wondering about what that looks like at school. We will support each family making their own decisions about masking and teachers are prepared to support that freedom of choice. Please see the district web page for continued updates about policy and procedures.
We are asking that families err on the side of caution with illness still. If your child doesn't feel well, please keep them home. We are really hoping that we can go into spring with hope and healthiness for the future.
    Sincerely yours,

    Websites to Know

To help keep things working smoothly, here are some gentle reminders from the front office:

    • Have your students wear coats and bring an extra change of clothes.

    • Do not park in no-parking zones or crosswalks.

    • Walk or carry anything wheeled while on school grounds.

    • Volunteer during lunch to help keep kids distanced.

    • Do not idle your car engine while waiting to pick up students.

    • Come to the front door and buzz if your student arrives late or leaves early.

    Read-A-Thon (NEW)
Thank you Sunnyside students and families for a great 3 weeks celebrating reading!

This week we had two authors visit, local author/illustrator Kate Berube and Eisner award winning author Marjorie Liu. Talk to your kids about their visits. They were outstanding. Book sales for ALL our guest speakers are available to reserve for one more week before we place our orders. Please buy signed copies of any of our authors books to support them and support SES at the same time. 20% of book sales goes to us (Thanks Books With Pictures for the hook up).

Next week please turn in your brochures, signed by a guardian, with your total reading units on them. These help your classes earn reading prizes AND enter your student into a raffle for a bunch of great prizes donated by our sponsors. IF you have any cash/check pledges those can be turned in with the reading forms at the same time to the Sunnyside office.

ONLINE pledging is still open until next Friday, so if you haven't yet done so please go to MYBOOSTER.com and set up your student's fundraising page. It just takes a couple minutes. After you do you'll easily be able to share your student OR family's page via email, text or social media to help raise money for the school. Last year we raised $20,308. We are 3/4 there. Let's power through this last week of fundraising and get to our goal!

Thank you so much for your enthusiasm, fundraising and most of all LOVE for reading. You make our school a very special place.

Leslie, Read-A-Thon coordinator and mom of Violet, 6th grade and Miles, 4th grade

    Garden Club: Mondays, 3:15-4:30
Meet every Monday (when school is in session) at 3:15pm at "the shed" or the "SES Workshop" near the playground, for tools and activity directions. Ends promptly at 4:30pm.

If Garden Club is canceled for the day, there will be a note posted at the shed. This is a free service for extra outdoor learning, not an after-school child care program, so supervision may be limited. Email Steph with questions: sunnysidesustainability@gmail.com

Join SES families at Westwind Family Camp Weekend of April 8-10
Want to spend a fun weekend at SES Family Camp on the coast? Sunnyside at Camp Westwind is a beloved Sunnyside family outing which ran for about 20 years prior to COVID-19. We would like to bring it back in 2022! We have booked the camp for April 8 - 10, 2022, which coincides with a no-school Friday.

The camp has made adjustments to its weekend offerings to make the experience more COVID safe - which mostly amount to more time to relax and play. The cost per person is $110 includes lodging and 5 meals; food allergies / restrictions can be accommodated! Lodging at Westwind is in heated / lit cabins. Most accommodate 9 people. If you want to bring people you are "bubbled" with who aren't technically SES families, that's fine.

To make this trip work, we'll need some commitments to come. Contact gwen@parachutestrategies.com and let us know if you are in.

Loved this trip before and want to help? We could use some help getting the word out and with planning. Never been but are curious? Questions can be directed to gwen@parachutestrategies.com or 503-475-8529. Please note this event is not officially hosted by the SES PTSA.
