    Websites to Know

To help keep things working smoothly, here are some gentle reminders from the front office:

    • Have your students wear coats and bring an extra change of clothes.

    • Do not park in no-parking zones or crosswalks.

    • Walk or carry anything wheeled while on school grounds.

    • Volunteer during lunch to help keep kids distanced.

    • Do not idle your car engine while waiting to pick up students.

    • Come to the front door and buzz if your student arrives late or leaves early.

    Calling all Middle Schoolers! (NEW)
The first SES Middle School Dance is next Thursday April 7th from 6:30-8:30!  It's got a Pajama Theme (optional of course but we love some festive jammies), DJ, lights and awesome snacks!  Please come celebrate with your classmates! Families: Visit sign up genius to sign up for chaperoning and snack bringing! (Volunteers must have active volunteer background checks.) Can you tell we are excited??

Save the date: The Sunnyside Comeback Campaign (NEW)
THE SUNNYSIDE COMEBACK CAMPAIGN is a series of fundraising events, including an online auction, an intimate live music house party, and a 70’s themed cocktail bash–all to raise funds to ensure SES has the teachers and staff necessary to support our environmental and social equity-focused curriculum. We hope to raise $60,000 through these events, which will fund staff support needed for both our place-based day and overnight trips, as well as an educational interventionist, which is critical for supporting all students kindergarten through 8th grade at Sunnyside Environmental.

DO YOU HAVE AN INTERESTING JOB? A SPECIAL TALENT? AN EXOTIC PET? We still need auction donations for vacation homes, restaurants, experiences, services, wine, beer—-anything that you think another parent (or kiddo) may want to bid on! Please fill out this form with the details of your auction item. Don't be shy, friends! Do you knit or play piano? Do you like to walk dogs or wash cars? An auction item in the making! We can't wait to let the bidding begin. Thanks for your support!

SES GARDEN DAY: Saturday April 23, 9am-1pm (NEW)
SES Garden Day, our community garden work party is scheduled to take place on Earth Day, Saturday, April 23 from 9am until 1pm. Drop in!

We need: Builders, weeding, wheelbarrows, rock movers, chicken lovers, sweeping, planting, and everyone to help a little bit.

    Read-A-Thon (NEW)
We blew the fundraising goal out of the water for Read-a-thon this year. The numbers are still being tallied, but we made more than $35,000 for our school!

Thanks to all the students for reading soooo much, for turning in your reading forms, for decorating your lockers and for getting so excited about our guest authors this year. We had such a great turnout and so much enthusiasm.

Thanks to the volunteers who helped make decorations, decorate the school, hand out candy for dress up days, helped count brochures and more. You are appreciated!

And a VERY special thanks to Gillian and Becky in the library. Without you two none of this would be possible or fun!

Totals for fundraising and reading units are being calculated right now and those will be announced next week, with the prizes to be delivered to classrooms and students shortly after.

We do know that 3-5 won the House Cup this year! The trophy will be back in the library for display and bragging rights in a few weeks!

If you purchased a signed book, those will be ready soon too. They just arrived at Books With Pictures and I am getting the local authors out to sign them this week! We'll deliver them to students as soon as they are ready.

Thanks for all your support of the students in their reading! You all make our community a very special place.

Leslie, Read-A-Thon coordinator and mom of Violet, 6th grade and Miles, 4th grade

Save the Date: SES Walk Run Move is Back — May 13!
PTSA is excited to announce the return of the Walk Run Move! On Friday, May 13, we will stretch, shuffle, shimmy or sprint our way around the school to raise some funds, pump our heart muscles, and have fun. Student, staff, and adult participation of all mobility levels welcome! You’ll gather pledges for active minutes and support SES PTSA goal to raise $12,000 for our marvelous school programs.

Do you want to volunteer, or know of a company that could support with in-kind donations? We’ll need help with safety team, lap counting, cheering, water stations, dance crew, and more. Contact Steph Barnhart at stephbarnhart1@gmail.com, and stay tuned for more info coming after spring break.

Join SES families at Westwind Family Camp Weekend of April 8-10
Want to spend a fun weekend at SES Family Camp on the coast? Sunnyside at Camp Westwind is a beloved Sunnyside family outing which ran for about 20 years prior to COVID-19. We would like to bring it back in 2022! We have booked the camp for April 8 - 10, 2022, which coincides with a no-school Friday.

The camp has made adjustments to its weekend offerings to make the experience more COVID safe - which mostly amount to more time to relax and play. The cost per person is $110 includes lodging and 5 meals; food allergies / restrictions can be accommodated! Lodging at Westwind is in heated / lit cabins. Most accommodate 9 people. If you want to bring people you are "bubbled" with who aren't technically SES families, that's fine.

To make this trip work, we'll need some commitments to come. Contact gwen@parachutestrategies.com and let us know if you are in.

Loved this trip before and want to help? We could use some help getting the word out and with planning. Never been but are curious? Questions can be directed to gwen@parachutestrategies.com or 503-475-8529. Please note this event is not officially hosted by the SES PTSA.

Please check here for any new information from our incredibly supportive PTSA.

    • PTSA needs volunteers
The parents currently serving in SES PTSA positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer will be ending their terms this year - we need new parents to step up and help run the PTSA! This is a vital part of our school that raises funds for art, gardening and field trips. If you're interested please reach out to our current President, Corby Watkins at corbywatkins@gmail.com, or come to an upcoming PTSA meeting. .
