    School News (NEW)
    Dear Sunnyside Families,
Sunnyside appreciates its community so much. This week we were so flooded with appreciation starting with the signs out front on Monday morning. It means so much to all of us working here every day to be so appreciated. For all of us this year has taken so many unexpected twists and turns and together we have been asked to flex our adaptation brains so many times. Everyone together has made this work and made a commitment to the community at Sunnyside and as we get closer to the end of the year, we can see how hard everyone has worked. We notice you parents as you volunteer for lunch duty, field trips, walking trips, and various other activities. Thank you for being our team. We couldn't do it without you and all your appreciation this week was just the cherry on the top! Thank you Sunnyside community. We look forward to the last month of school and all the fun celebratory activities we will participate in and to celebrate your students and you. Thank you to the Sunnyside staff for always showing up with a smile and a kindness and dedication to students and for being such a stellar group of talented individuals.
    Sunnyside rocks!
    Eryn & Alix

    • Walk or carry anything wheeled while on school grounds.

    • Volunteer during lunch to help keep kids distanced.

Sunnyside Comeback Campaign: Laura Veirs house party tickets close to selling out (UPDATED)

    Staff Appreciation Week (NEW)
Thank you amazing community for coming together to show our love and appreciation for our incredible SES teachers and staff. Special thanks to all who wrote cards for teachers, to those who contributed food for staff, to our Classroom Family Reps who created very loving Love Baskets, to all who stood around in the rain this morning making floral bouquets, to Jill at Starflower, Geoff at Stumptown and John at Oblique Coffee. I think our staff felt the love. And because this is my kids' last year at SES, we'd love to find another enthusiastic community member who'd like to take over the running of Staff Appreciation Week. Feel free to reach out if you might be that person. Thanks again, Leonie (simplyleonie@gmail.com)

End-of-year Middle School dance: Friday, June 10 (NEW)
The last Middle School Dance of the year is on the last day of school: Friday, June 10th from 6:30-8:30, featuring a DJ, lights and awesome snacks! We hope all middle schoolers will come celebrate the graduating 8th grade class. Families: Please visit this SugnUpGenius to sign up for chaperoning and snack bringing! (Volunteers must have active volunteer background checks.) Let’s kick off summer right!

    PPS-Approved Fliers (NEW)

The following fliers have been approved by PPS to share:

No SES supervision before 8:40am or after school
Please note that there is no supervision on the playground or school grounds before or after school.

School starts at 8:45. The office is really busy in the morning so if you can make every effort to get here on time, we would appreciate it.

    PPS 2022-2023 district calendar
The PPS calendar for next year has been approved and can be found here. The first day of school for grades 1-8 will be Tuesday, August 30, 2022. The first full day of Kindergarten will be Tuesday, September 6, 2022. The last day of school will be Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

    8th grade speeches
On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays during middle school morning meeting, 8th graders are delivering these speeches, starting at 8:45am. PPS policy allows us to hold assemblies and events in person, and we're delighted to report that speeches will take place in person in the SES Auditorium. Also according to PPS policy, we cannot require people to wear masks or to social distance; please keep this in mind as you make your decision whether to attend in person.

You can find the schedule of speeches here. The schedule does change, so please be sure to check for updates regularly if there's someone you really want to see. (Note: No one is allowed to exit or enter the auditorium when a speech is in progress; please show up on time.)

Please check here for any new information from our incredibly supportive PTSA.

    • Wednesday, May 18, 6:30pm: PTSA board meeting (open to all)
Please join us at our virtual PTSA meeting on Wednesday, May 18 at 6:30pm. It's a great way to find out more about what the PTSA does and how you can get involved. Use this Google Meet link, or the link on our calendar at sesptsa.org.
    • PTSA needs volunteers
The parents currently serving in SES PTSA positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer will be ending their terms this year - we need new parents to step up and help run the PTSA! This is a vital part of our school that raises funds for art, gardening and field trips. If you're interested please reach out to our current President, Corby Watkins at corbywatkins@gmail.com, or come to an upcoming PTSA meeting.
