School News (NEW)
Dear Sunnyside Community,This week is Counselor Appreciation Week and I want to send a huge shout out to Rebecca and Alison. Rebecca has been here three years and has been a huge support and advocate for our students. She is kind, thoughtful, and fun to work with and the students love their time with her for lunch bunch, QSA, or friendship groups. Alison is new this year and serves middle school. She has been a calm, caring, and committed counselor and even though she is only half time, it seems like she is always here supporting our students and families. Thank you so much Rebecca and Alison.
We have a ton of upcoming events, read-a-thon, the 8th grade retreat, the middle school dance, and Pie Day. We appreciate all the work our staff and community do to bring these events to life and as our weather gets a teeny bit warmer, our teachers will continue to go out on field trips and field study and continue to explore the world around us. Nathan has been busy with students outside in our gardens and as you walk around, you can see the buds sprouting.
Enjoy the false spring that always comes early February!

If you have either hanging around we would love to give them a new home! Email Librarian Gillian at ggrimm@pps.net if you have items to donate.READ-A-THON begins in two weeks (NEW)
Our beloved, annual READ-A-THON begins in less than 2 weeks. READ-A-THON is super important event for so many reasons: it supports a love of reading and literacy, it creates opportunities for solidarity and camaraderie in classes and across grade levels through read-ins and other activities, it provides a structure where our whole community reads together and shares ideas from our reading, exposes our students to different forms of literature and it also happens to raise a significant amount of money for our school. The money raised through this event pays for place-based learning activities, field studies and other classroom trips, our sustainability staff (garden teacher), our Spring theater program, music, and a variety of other PTSA funded programs at Sunnyside. This event happens Feb 21- March 9th.The theme this year is "Celebrate your fREADom". This is going to be a really fun one with 5 author visits, 3 dress-ups days, "house cup", locker library, "got caught reading", prizes for reading, participation and fundraising plus LOTS AND LOTS OF READING!!!
